The City of Edmonton recently announced a new rebate for Electric Vehicles (EV’s) and Electric Bikes (E-Bikes).
The ECEB rebate program is split into 3 categories, Residential, Commercial and E Bikes. This is in addition to the Edmonton home solar power rebate.
New or existing homes can save on installations of EV Chargers in Edmonton
Existing homes in Edmonton can receive the lower of $600 or 50% of the installed cost of a Level 2 EV charging station. The rebate is limited to one charger per household. It is recommended to get pre-approved.
New builds can receive the lower of $300 or 50% of the installed cost of a Level 2 EV charger in Edmonton. New home EV rebate is capped at 5 per applying company per calendar year and 1 per residence.
· Must be a new Level 2 EV station
· Station must be purchased and not leased
· Must be approved for use in Canada
· Must be fixed or mounted to the home, not portable
· Must be installed by a licensed Master Electrician with relevant Electrical Permit.
Electrical upgrades required for residential EV Charging in Edmonton are eligible under this Edmonton EV Rebate.
Commercial entities can receive the lower of $2,000 or 50%of the installed cost of a Level 2 charging station. This is capped at 5 chargers per applying company per calendar year. It is recommended to receive pre-approval.
This rebate applies to existing buildings only.
· Must be a new Level 2 EV station
· Must be purchased and not leased
· Must be mounted or fixed, not portable
· Must include a label stating “EV Charging Only”
· Must be installed by a Master Electrician with relevant Electrical Permit
· Must be a business in the City of Edmonton
It is allowed to include electrical upgrades in the rebate amount for commercial EV Charging stations in Edmonton.
For both category 1 and 2, a copy of the EV charging station receipt and/or invoice with the installation cost must be provided. The electric vehicle charger specifications are to be provided and proof of ownership of the building is required.
Rebates are now available to purchase E-Bikes. You can receive the lower of $750 or 30% of the purchase price limited to one per residence.
· Must be a new E Bike
· Must be approved for use in Canada
· Must be purchased and not leased
· Must have steering handlebars and is equipped with pedals (sorry, no scooters or segways)
· Is designed to travel on not more than 3 wheels
· Has additional power compliance requirements.
Your new EV charger should match your new EV – clean and something you want to show your friends. Electrical work should not look grungy or make you want to hide it.
